Snuggles' Sim Shack

Postby SnuggleKittens » Mon Sep 12, 2016 11:32 am

Hi Everyone,

I've been working on some VST amp sims. They took a lot of time and research but i think they sound pretty good. I've included a Mark IIC+, 5150 and XTC (preamps only).

A little about the simulations:

They are pure "White Box" simulations (simulated from the schematics and nothing else) and they are VERY heavy on CPU (at least in 2016 :D ). You may or may not find a use for them but i thought i would share them anyway. Especially since there are not many IIC+ sims floating around. I have not simulated the tone stacks since i just prefer to use a eq plugin (except for the IIC+ where the tone stack is early in the circuit and influences the character of the distortion).

Obligatory Lasse & Mago DI clip:

The plugins have a few slight limitations:

- At this stage they are designed to run only at 44.1kHz. They oversample to 88.2kHz to reduce aliasing to a level where you have to listen pretty hard to hear it.

- The numerical solving scheme may become unstable if you feed it high digital input level or high level uncorrelated noise (not sure why you would do this anyway). For any sane regular guitar use they should be fine.

- I am not an experienced plugin developer, but they work fine in Reaper and Ableton, depending on your DAW your experience may differ.

FINALLY, I WILL TAKE REQUESTS!

if you provide a circuit and i think it looks do-able/interesting i will simulate it. I can also do special mods like making any component in the circuit into a parameter so it can be varied in real time.

a few rules:

- Resistors, capacitors, inductors and 12ax7 tubes only (at least for now).

- Choose one circuit configuration only.

Snuggles.

EDIT:

I believe you will also need the 2015 C++ Redistributable.

It's here if you want to install it. https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/downloa ... x?id=48145

Cool. Sounds interesting, and thanks for sharing! From your description, the coding sounds very rough at this point, so expect anything...
I'll download, and give you some feedback when I can.

Get this error when scanned in Reaper:
SnuggledC2Plus.dll is either not designed on Windows or contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

Do these happen to be 64 bit?
This is an older laptop I'm using. (32 bit windows)

Yes, unfortunately they are only 64 bit

Downloaded into my other system:
Windows10 64 bit, Reaper v5.24

VST scanning error + note:
Plug-in "Snuggles2CPLus.dll" executed invalid operation during scanning.

note: If Reaper crashes as a result of this, simply run it again and it will continue on the next plugin

None of the 3 fx work, tried both 64 bit, and also 32 bit Reaper, same error.
Coding problem, try again.

Damnit,

I have 2 separate machines and they both work.

I will investigate further.

Does it work if you run Reaper as an Administrator?

Also maybe try putting it in "C:\Program Files\VST Plugins" and telling reaper to include that in its plugin search.

Tried exactly as you requested, results were the same error as before.

VST scanning error + note:
Plug-in "Snuggles2CPLus.dll" executed invalid operation during scanning.

note: If Reaper crashes as a result of this, simply run it again and it will continue on the next plugin

Did the amp sims work for you?

Doesn't work here. You need to get rid of c++ redistributable dependency, that's the issue.
