Few questions on my new gear

Postby nhlpens » Wed May 23, 2012 8:54 am

Hi.

I just bought the Behringer UCG102 USB device, I plug my guitar into the 'guitar' socket and my speakers into the 'headphones / speaker' socket. Then of course the USB plug into my computer. I fire up Guitar Rig, but the sound is not good at all.

My questions is: I use the onboard motherboard soundcard, however, In a few days I'll receive my new PCI soundcard.
It's the ASUS Xonar D1, I hear good things about this card, very good infact. But how much better will it really sound?
If not any better, then why, what gear should I purchase (ideally).

My second questions then is: I only have one set of PC speakers, is there any way I can get both my music (pc sounds in general) to go through them but also the sound from Guitar Rig? I do have a Roland Micro-cube amp I guess I could use as an output speaker if need be.

I use win7, Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.6ghz, 4gb ram, ATI Radeon 4850 HD display card. I have some decent Logitech speakers with a sub woofer.

Thanks, and pardon any grammar mistakes.

Hi,

UCG102 is an audio interface itself, it doesn't matter what other audio card you have in your PC.

Of course you can hear both Guitar Rig and PC sounds through one set of speakers - all it takes is to tell your operating system to use UCG102 for both playback and recording. In Windows 7, go to audio settings in Control Panel to set this.

If you're not satisfied with UCG, I would recommend getting a better sounding device. Line 6 POD Studio GX & ESI UGM96 are much better and are very fairly priced. Check my website for reviews of these interfaces (go to articles).
